Centers of Excellence

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering has taken an initiative step of establishing Centers of Excellence in the areas of VLSI and Embedded Systems & IoT. The CoE in each domain functions with a vision of creating skilled and industry aligned students. Students are being trained in these two core areas of Electronics and Communication Engineering with internal faculty members and also with experts from the industry making them competent engineers who can meet global challenges with societal commitment.
CoE in VLSI Design
India’s electronics and semiconductor sectors have been on an upswing in the past few years. The country is already home to a large number of semiconductor design facilities and we are recognized for its supreme design capabilities. As the country is strengthening its ESDM (Electronics System Design and Manufacturing) manufacturing base coupled with high-end R&D projects, we are clearly moving ahead of the curve and India is emerging as a centre of attraction for ESDM design and manufacturing. Along with the industry growth, India needs to create a firm engineering talent base catering to the needs of this high-tech industry.
CoE in Embedded Systems and IoT
Embedded systems are part and parcel of every modern electronic component. These are low power consumption units that are used to run specific tasks for example remote controls, washing machines, microwave ovens, RFID tags , sensors, actuators and thermostats used in various applications, networking hardware such as switches, routers, modems, mobile phones, PDAs, etc.
Usually embedded devices are a part of a larger device where they perform specific task of the device. For example embedded systems are used as networked thermostats in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, in Home Automation embedded systems are used as wired or wireless networking to automate and control lights, security, audio/visual systems, sense climate change, monitoring, etc.
Major players in embedded system hardware and software developments are aiming to bring these transformations into their products to take advantage of growing IoT market. The areas that are going to transform are Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and microprocessors and microcontrollers, followed by memory footprints and networking, open source communities and developers.
